12 Scripture Verses to Teach Kids

Father reading to young daughterIt’s a common stereotype that Catholics don’t know Scriptures the way Protestants do. Yet, all Christians have the opportunity to rely on the wisdom, solace and joy that passages of Scripture can bring to our lives. After all, Scripture is God’s Word given to all to help guide us in good times and bad.

As parents and caring adults, we have the privilege of sharing this wisdom with children and young people. Here at VIRTUS®, we often focus on how to prevent dangerous situations and how to keep children safe. The aim of these efforts, though, is ultimately to give children the space to grow in wisdom and grace—and love of the Lord.

Consider, therefore, teaching the children in your life just a few of these easily memorized verses that remind all of us what a tremendous gift God is in our lives.

  1. Psalm 139:14 – I praise you God, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
  2. Isaiah 26:4 – Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock.
  3. 1 John 4:19 – We love because he first loved us.
  4. Deuteronomy 6:5 – You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.
  5. Matthew 22:39 – You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
  6. 1 Corinthians 10:31 – Whatever you do, do everything for the glory of God.
  7. Psalm 136:1 – Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. His love endures forever.
