Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

There is an old tradition that the Blessed Mother blesses the water each year on the Feast of the Assumption and the waters become healing and curative. The tradition includes a pilgrimage for people to "put their feet into the ocean" each year on the feast and to enjoy the healing power of the ocean.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church [966] teaches: "Finally the Immaculate Virgin, preserved free from all stain of original sin, when the course of her earthly life was finished, was taken up body and soul into heavenly glory, and exalted by the Lord as Queen over all things, so that she might be the more fully conformed to her Son, the Lord of lords and conqueror of sin and death."

The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary celebrates God's tremendous love for her, and most certainly Mary's powerful love of God and for all people. Her sacrifices and perfect "yes" to God's will changed the world. In honor of Mary, we pray this litany for all abused and neglected children who need her loving care and presence:

Mary, Mother of Jesus, Hear Our Prayer.
Mary, Lover of the Divine, Help us!
Mary, Comforter of the suffering, Be close to us.
Mary, Spouse of Joseph, Inspire all parents.
Mary, Teacher of Jesus, Watch over us.
Mary, Peacemaker, Heal our divisions.
Mary, Nurse to the wounded, Be our balm
Mary, Queen of the Universe, Protect us.
Mary, Witness to the Passion, Comfort the innocent.
Mary, Mother of Us All, Unite us to your Son.
Amen.
